Rose Marie Theresa Schmidt

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Rose Marie Theresa Schmidt (Hahn) on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

Lovingly remembered by her son Gerald (Phyllis) Schmidt, daughter Brenda (Wayne) Himburg, Karen Durnin and Steve. Beloved Grandma to Travis (Cheryl), Rob (Andrea), Donna, Amber (Paul) and great-grandchildren Dylan, Dawson, Kenisha, Taylor, Eion, Taylor, Makayla, and Alicia.  Also loved and remembered by Betty, Pauline, R.J., and Shailynn.  Sister to Lorraine Degen and Rita Kennedy all of Kitchener, and sister-in-law to Bernice Hahn and Joan McMichael.

Predeceased by the love of her life Edward George Schmidt on December 23, 2002, her beloved son Ronald Wayne Schmidt on May 12, 2013, her parents George and Lidwina (Hergott) Hahn, three brothers Edward, Claude and John Hahn and sisters Irene Keller, Loretta Quehl, Liberta Sattler, Adelle Mitchell, Mary Clayfield, Delilah, Florence, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Mom’s passion for gardening was legendary and she could often be found tending the plants, carefully placing the seed, watering and tending the shoots as they poked through the ground. She was an amazingly kind, caring and warm person to all who knew her, always giving of herself, generous in her time and spirit. We could always count on some goodies appearing when she would visit … pies … cookies … tarts and who can forget those amazing homemade French fries. She could often be found enjoying puzzles, cheering for her Blue Jays, urging her favourite curling team to victory and following the Kitchener Rangers. Mom was known to bet a dollar or two at the horse races, would take in a live theatre show and on a very rare occasion might visit a casino.

The family would like to thank all the first responders, Paul, Police, Fire Rescue and Paramedics, and Dr. Wm. John Ewen.  A special thank you to Constable Mac Campbell from the Waterloo North Division; your professionalism and compassion while you remained with us for those many hours made a most difficult time bearable.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Rose with her family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday November 29, 2017 from 12-1 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Jennifer Wirth officiating.  Reception to follow. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.

Condolences for the family and donations to Grand River Hospital MRI Unit or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
