Kay (Diamond) Downe died peacefully on January 5, 2018 at Luther Village Sunshine Centre, Waterloo ON. Born on June 8, 1924 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Kay was the youngest daughter of the late Levi Alexander and Sara Stentaford Diamond.
In 1990, Kay was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Wesley Downe. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Beverley Tedford of Saint Andrews NB, son William Downe and his wife, Robin, of Toronto ON; six grandchildren: Sara Tedford (Dave), Lisa Morrison (Peter), Edmund Tedford (Melissa), Richard Downe, Jeffrey Downe, Matthew Downe (Shannon); three great grandchildren: Samuel Tedford Gold, William Morrison and Eliana Tedford Gold; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Kay was predeceased by son-in-law Edmund Tedford and six siblings: Bertram Diamond of Madison, New Jersey, and Lena Diamond, Harold Diamond, Hilda Halliday, Nell Radford, Ruth Rabbitts, all of St. John’s.
Kay was an avid curler and golfed well into her 80’s. She was a long time member of the IODE, Westmount Golf Club, Waterloo First United Church and supporter of KW Symphony. Intelligent and funny to the last day, Kay’s engaging personality always lit up the room. Despite recent declining health, she showed great strength and courage and will be profoundly missed by all of her family.
According to Kay’s wishes, there will be no visitation; a family memorial service and interment will take place in Woodstock ON in the spring at a date to be determined.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Luther Village Sunshine Centre staff for their attention, care and support of Kay over the past 18 months. Very special thanks to Premiere Healthcare nursing staff Teg Bek and Rachel Glynn for their dedication and loving care.
