Obituary of Robert John Byron Ray

After a long and full life, Bob died peacefully in Kitchener in his 92nd year. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Elinore Ray, they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 14, 2016, four days before Elinore’s passing. Loving father of Kathy (Jeff Bryce) and Alan (John Montague). Dear grandpa to Jackie, Daniel (Lizzie McArdle), and James (Grace Kim), and great-grandpa to Riley. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Nancy Ray, niece Susan (Brian Jordan), nephews David and Michael Ray, and grandnieces Alex and Taylor Jordan. Predeceased by brother Ted Ray and parents Roy Byron Ray and Jessie Emeline MacKenzie. Bob was born in Ottawa and lived most of his life in Kitchener-Waterloo. He was a founding partner in the chartered accounting firm Ray Ariss Grein and Nowak. Bob loved family. Kathy and Alan have wonderful memories of cottage life at Lake Rosalind and camping and travel throughout Canada and the United States. Bob’s passions were photography, watercolour painting, golf, tennis, and downhill and cross-country skiing. Bob and Elinore enjoyed the Pops Series at the Centre in the Square, the Drayton Festival Theatre, and were regulars at Crossroads in Elmira. During retirement, Bob and Elinore cruised and travelled throughout the Caribbean and Europe, and especially liked Greece and Spain. Bob enjoyed the Wing 404 art group and he was a regular Conestoga Mall walker until a week ago. Along with Elinore, Bob was a charter member of Parkminster United Church in Waterloo. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held for the family. The family is grateful for the care by the staff at Grand River Hospital. Condolences for the family and donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
