Obituary of Sandra Llewellyn Horton

Died early Saturday morning at Columbia Forest L.T.C. Centre with husband Bob at her side. Born in Regina, "Sandy" moved with her family to Washington D.C. during WWII. After the war they returned to Winnipeg where Sandy graduated from Riverbend School (Balmoral Hall) and then became a student nurse at Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating as an RN in 1954. She married Robert Brian Horton in August 1957. Daughters Sharon and Lee (Shirley) were born in Winnipeg and then the family moved to Bogota Colombia where Bob practiced as a CA (now a Chartered Professional Accountant - retired). Their son Bob (Robert) was born in Bogota. From 1964 – '67 the family lived in Bermuda before returning to Ontario to raise their children as Canadians. In Toronto and later in Waterloo, Sandy continued to enjoy Public Health nursing, and retired in 1996. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Europe, Australia, China, and Russia as well as cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. At home she enjoyed curling, skiing, golf, camping, and bridge. In addition to husband Bob, Sandy is survived by Sharon King (Rodger), Lee Horton-Carter (Greg), son Bob (Annegret), and grandchildren Nicole Fowler (Matt), Stephanie King, Kirsten Horton (Kun Devanny), Marie Horton, Bensen Carter and Kezia Carter and great-granddaughter Claire Fowler. Friends and relatives are invited to share their memories of Sandy with her family during visitation on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 7-9 pm at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St. S., Waterloo. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday February 4th, at 11:00am with reception to follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Cremation has already taken place.
