I was saddened to learn of the recent passing of an old friend, and wish to extend my condolences to the entire family.
I knew Lanny best during his 'Cordoba Years'. I joined Equitable Life in 1980 and not long afterward Lanny 'rescued' me from the basement of the student house I was holed up in just yards from the corner of Erb & Westmount. I became his roommate, and we hung out a fair amount together.
Lanny introduced me to the Waterloo Businessmen's Fastball League, where I coached for a couple of years (because I wasn't any good on the field). We also bowled on the two Equitable Life teams on Thursdays in the Waterloo Businessmen's Bowling League (I wasn't any good at that either).
As for fishing, I remember walking many a concession on the weekends leading up to opening day - Lanny was keen on his preparation activities prior to hooking up with the first rainbow or salmon of the season. He taught me a lot about fishing, but I am most grateful for rekindling a love for the sport after giving it up as a youngster following a sunfish fin-stabbing incident on the Trent river.
I'll always remember Lanny as a fun-loving outdoorsman, a consummate gentleman, and most comfortable with a fishing pole in his hand. I am truly grateful for the kindness he extended to me.

We extent our deep regrets and sorrow to the family .He will be missed by all.
I worked with Lanny for 33 years and kept in touch in retirement. Years ago, my young family would often see Lanny at baseball games.....he was an excellent player. Lanny was well known for his fishing skills. On one memorable occasion, he took my sons and I to see the very large mature spawning salmon surging and jumping up one of his favorite creeks.
Lanny was a master at his craft The printing department often provided key material and they ware much appreciated.

Sending my love and deepest condolences to the Zarnke family.
I came to know Lanny over the past three summers at the camp on the island and will never forget his positivity, his devotion to his friends and family, and his love for beautiful Manitoulin.
This past summer I caught my very first fish just off the camp and although it was supper time, Lanny was quick to come over and show me how to clean and filet my catch. That night Michael and I cooked my catch over an open fire underneath the big Manitoulin sky full of stars. It is a great memory that I will hold forever and will think of Lanny who made it all possible.

We were very sorry to learn about Lanny's illness and death. We both worked with him at Equitable Life for many years and always found him to be helpful and friendly. He was thought of very highly by the staff at Equitable Life and will be missed very much by the Equitable Life retiree group.

Mandy and I were so sorry to hear about your loss - our thoughts are with your family.
Lanny was such an engaging, pleasant and constantly positive person. His laughter and personality could fill a room. I have no doubt that he has a VIP suite reserved in Heaven.

My sincere condolences to the Zarnke family on Lanny's passing. I worked at Equitable Life during part of Lanny's tenure and stayed in touch through participating in the annual NFL pool he organized each January. Lanny was always available for a quick chat when I passed his office and will be missed by many.
