Obituary of Bruce Henry John Underwood

Underwood, Bruce Henry John Our family is saddened by the loss of our Dad and Grampa Bruce H. Underwood on Monday, April 17, 2017 at his residence in his 95th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Sybil; sons Murray and Ian; daughter-in-law Anne and sister Shirley. Bruce will be missed by his son Bruce D. Underwood (Joanne) of Calgary, daughter-in-law Lee Anne Underwood of Toronto, his grandchildren John (Vanessa), Michael (Katie), Stefan (Mallory), Christopher, Richard, David (Katie), and Heather. Also survived by great-grandchildren Gavin, Tyler and Zoe and by his brother Douglas Underwood (Marina) of London, ON. Mr. Underwood was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Kitchener; the Retired K-W Business & Professional Men’s Club, and the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He served as a Radar Mechanic and Officer with the R.C.A.F. in England from 1941 to 1945. After discharge he worked in product design at Marsland Engineering and at Standard Television Products. Scouting created an interest in young people and he attended the Ontario College of Education at the University of Toronto. After graduation he taught at F.H.C.I., W.C.I. and C.H.C.I. in Kitchener and Waterloo for more than twenty five years. As an amateur radio operator since 1949 he operated with the call sign VE3ANU pioneering in the use of Very High Frequencies. During retirement he was an active curler, bowler and golfer. Bruce was a Past President of the K-W Jaycees, the K-W Amateur Radio Club and Scouts Canada, North Waterloo District. The Funeral Service will be held at Church of St. John the Evangelist, 23 Water St. N., Kitchener on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.
