Alfons Preiss

Obituary of Alfons Preiss

Preiss, Alfons Was reunited with the love of his life, Milda ( 2009 ) on Thursday April 20, 2017 in his 96th year. Forever loved by his twins, Harold ( Benita ), Ancaster and Ingrid ( Peter Suhr ), Kitchener. Cherished Grandpa of Marisa ( Jamie ), Newmarket; Andy ( Kaley ) Suhr, Innisfil; Nicolas ( Louise ), Toronto. Survived by his dear sister Elza, her daughter Velga and family in Latvia. The only son of a farmer-homebuilder, Alfons focused on learning as much as he could. He built his own bike, skis and worked on math problems until they were solved. He became a highly original thinker, innovator and multi-talented. During WW2, he served in the Latvian Legion. Later in a Displaced Persons Camp, Alfons and Milda became friends and he followed her to Canada. They were married in Kitchener and had twins. Alfons worked in woodworking but learned another trade at night school. When he announced he was leaving, he was offered the position of super intendant of Baetz Brothers Fine Furniture. Once he found his direction, his communication skills, versatility and likeability brought him more success than he could ever have dreamed of. Milda’s support, honesty, respect and spiritual strength earned her a loyal, entertaining, loving partner. They were dedicated to their family and friends. Alfons’ legacy to his children and grandchildren: his love of self-acquired knowledge. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment and celebration of his life will take place on a later date. Our gratitude to Conestoga Lodge and Lanark Heights for their compassionate care. Condolences for the family can be made through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
