Luise was born Stanislawa Poschun on March 10, 1922 in St. Daniel, and grew up in Zagorje Slovenia. The family subsequently moved to Leoben, Austria.  Here, she met her future husband, John Mortsch while skiing on Präbichl Mountain. She made a courageous journey across the Atlantic in 1953 to marry John in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and begin building their life together in Canada. They set down roots in Cornwall by building their first house and celebrating the birth of their two children, Linda (1955) and Alan (1959).  Luise delighted in being a mom and running the family.

Once the St. Lawrence Seaway was completed, the Mortsch family moved to Etobicoke closer to her brother Alex’s family.  While in Toronto, Luise focused on setting the foundations for her children’s future - education, travel, music and sports.  Aside from being a working mom, she found time to build another house with John - their cottage on Rice Lake.

For their retirement, Luise and John moved to Kitchener close to skiing again – at Chicopee Hill.  They socialized with a wide, group of friends, travelled, and had the time to dote on grandchildren.

Luise lost John in 1994 but remained in Kitchener-Waterloo and enjoyed extensive travels with family and friends to Austria, Italy, western Canada, and the Caribbean.

Life long, Luise enjoyed skiing, opera, and travel, but most of all she loved her family and said ‘The best time is the time spent with family’.
