Obituary of Shirley Mills Filiatrault

Shirley passed away peacefully on Sunday April 30, 2017 at Grand River Hospital, with her family by her side.  She is survived by her husband Paul, children Robert (Wendy), John and Paul (Anne), along with grandchildren Graydon, Wade, Chase, Lindsay, Shelby, Elizabeth and James.

Born in Montreal in 1927 to James and Editha Conrad, Shirley and her family resided in Greenfield Park. Shirley attended Teachers College receiving her Teaching Diploma in 1945. Shirley taught Kindergarten children for many years in Montreal. She married her high school sweetheart Paul Joseph Filiatrault and eventually moved to Kitchener Waterloo in 1967 to support her husband’s new welding supply business, Tri-County Welding Supplies Ltd.

In Waterloo, she became involved with the Waterloo Tennis Club, KW Granite Club and was soon recognized for her love and competitive spirit of sport. Her keen business sense and gradual involvement within Tri-County Welding Supplies helped grow the business to the huge success that it came to be.

Shirley devoted her life to her three boys and family, which became apparent in their accomplishments whether it was in sports or within the business community.

She continued her passion for curling, tennis and golf through membership at Westmount Golf and Country Club, where she was also an avid Bridge player.
