Peggy Gridgeman

Obituary of Peggy Gridgeman

Peggy passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in her 99th year. Predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Norman Gridgeman (1995), her son Mark (2010), and her grandson Andrew (2016).

Dear mother of Neal (Louise) and Denis (Janet). Will forever be remembered by her grandchildren Jason (Nina), Alana Merritt (Kyle), Matthew, and Jonathan, and her great-grandchildren Travis, Hayley, Luke, Kadyn, Brinley, and Benjamin.

Peggy was a very lovely lady who played a devoted and inspiring role in our lives for so many years. Her enduring passions were family, literature, nature and gardening, and her cheerful and practical approach to life’s little problems was always a comfort.

Peggy was born in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England, June 22, 1918, the youngest of three Myers sisters, and began working at the cotton exchange across the river in Liverpool. She married Norman in 1939 and the couple with their three children emigrated to Canada in October 1952. They lived in Ottawa for thirty years and eventually moved after retirement to Sooke on Vancouver Island. When Norman passed away in 1995, Peggy moved back East to be with family in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and we were blessed to have her love and companionship for another twenty-two years, for which we are eternally grateful.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held in the chapel of Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place.

Condolences for the family and memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Salvation Army may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
