Obituary of Erica Hildegarde Janzen

Erica Janzen died on June 20 at the Terrace on the Square in Waterloo.  She was born and lived in New Hamburg until her marriage to Rudy Janzen, and thereafter together went to Winnipeg for his studies, and from there to Saskatchewan, British Columbia and finally back to Ontario as they served Mennonite Brethren congregations as a pastoral couple.  In her early youth she became the church pianist which she continued throughout her active life.  In addition to raising her family, she taught piano to many students and served as an administrative assistant in various business, college and police offices and volunteered for many church programs.

She is survived by two children David (Laura) of Carlsbad New Mexico and Kathie (David Allard) of London; grandchildren Travis (Renee) Janzen, Kari (Will) Hicks, Ryan (Melanie) McNamara, Sean (Kelly) McNamara, Evan (Maggie)McNamara, Robert (Rachel) Marcello; great-grandchildren Rylee, Nora, Jenna, Jake, Owen, Ainsleigh, Evan, Olivia and Nicholas; sister Margaret (Ed) Boldt and brother Ronald (Gudrun) Mathies. 

She was predeceased by her husband Rudy, two infant sons, her son-in-law David McNamara, her parents John and Sara Mathies, sisters and brothers-in-law Elfrieda (Peter) Poetker and Helen (Henry) Neufeld.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service and reception will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
