Obituary of Floyd L. Branston

On Thursday, July 20, Floyd Branston passed away peacefully in his 80th year, following a prolonged period of complicated health issues. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days at Freeport Hospital.

Floyd was a loving and devoted husband to Carmel (nee Lowry) for 21 years, a loving father to daughters Robin (Stacy) and Melodie (O’Connell) and son-in-law Daniel O’Connell. He was a loving stepfather to Sarah and Yvan Rodrigues and Kyle and Kristin Bunte. It was a great joy for Floyd to be Grampa to Daniel, Marley, Mikayla, and Dylan O’Connell and to Brooklyn, Annabelle, and Abbigail Bunte. Floyd was pre-deceased by his beloved first wife Barb (1994), his son-in-law Daniel Stacy (2010) and his parents John and Margaret.

Floyd is survived by his brothers Rod (Norma Kelly), Wayne, and John (Kathleen) Branston, his sisters-in-law Thelma Branston and Diana Bryant (Eldon), his niece Penny Branston and his nephews Randy, Barry and Larry and their families.

Floyd had 2 careers: 33 years as a manager with Bell Canada and nearly 20 years as a realtor in Kitchener-Waterloo. He always enjoyed learning new things, meeting new people, and mentoring others.

Floyd was a member of the Masonic Order of Canada and recently received 50-year pins from his current lodge, Wilmot Lodge 318, and his mother lodge, Ivy Lodge 115. He was a proud member of masonry and counted many of his brothers as friends. The family would especially like to thank Rob Steele and Doug West for their kindness, care, and support throughout Floyd’s life and illness.

Floyd will be remembered for his positive attitude, his sense of humour and fun, (his “Floyd-isms,”) his loyalty and his desire to help others. We will miss his larger than life personality and his ever-ready laugh.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Floyd with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Masonic Service will be held Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday July 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Reception to follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium, Waterloo.

Condolences for the family and donations to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Forest Hill United Church may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
