Obituary of Frederic Gordon Loney

With saddened hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, amazing father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Frederic (Ted) Loney, on August 22nd, at Innisfree House Hospice, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ted was in his 81st year, born in Montreal, July 18th 1937. He was the cherished and beloved husband to Janice (Jan) Loney (Brinkworth), loving father to three children, Byron Loney (Brenda), Bruce Loney (Kerri) and Heather Scott (Terry).

Proud Grandpa to Meghan, Ian, Colin, Stacey, Cara, Robyn and Brittany.  Great-Grandpa to Coby. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Florence Loney (Sawyer) of Ottawa, his sister Audrey and brother-in-law Dannie Marcus of Ottawa, and brother Don Loney of Ottawa and Antigonish.

Survived by his loving wife Jan, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years. He lives on through his three children, and will be deeply missed by all of his relatives in the Brinkworth, Marcus and Sawyer families from B.C. and Ontario.

Remembered also by many friends and acquaintances from his long flying career- 12 years served in the Royal Canadian Navy, 1954-1966 Lieutenant (Pilot), and 31 years with Air Canada, 1966-1997, retiring as Captain.

Ted was a loyal family man and loved his home and being surrounded by loved ones. He had many pastimes, mostly involving sports, playing football and baseball in school, and for the Navy Shearwater Flyers football team.  As a former member of the K-W Granite curling club and Westmount Golf & Country Club, he enjoyed the competition and friendship.

Always a keen fisherman, he got such great pleasure from the annual trips with his boys, son-in-law and grandsons to fish the northern lakes.

In retirement, Ted and Jan travelled extensively, taking many cruises and enjoying winter vacations in Hawaii with family and friends.

Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share their memories of Ted with his family during visitation at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St South, Waterloo, on Friday August 25th 2017 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  A memorial service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home.

A private family interment will be held at a later date at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.

In lieu of flowers, memory donations to support Innisfree House may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to all of the staff and volunteers at Innisfree House Hospice for their amazing and compassionate care.
