Obituary of Marc Alois Verhoeve

VERHOEVE, Marc Alois

Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton on Monday, September 25, 2017, at the age of 70 of cancer.

A very special husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, colleague and friend. Left with many wonderful memories is his best friend and wife of 43 years, Karen Verhoeve (nee Weber), and his children Sarah Beingessner (Paul), Jonathan Verhoeve (Heather), and Adam Verhoeve (Tasha), as well as grandchildren Norah, Claire, and Luke; cherished sister Joanne McCabe (Jim).  Survived by family: Susan and David Oates, Maureen Weber and David Helwig, and Cathy Weber. Also fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins living in Belgium.

Predeceased by parents Raymond and Maria Verhoeve and brother-in-law Deryck Weber.

Marc was an avid reader, enthusiastic storyteller, and was passionate about his cottage ‘Sans Souci’. He will be remembered for his 32 years in the public school board as a secondary school guidance counselor and department head at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute. He also served a five-year term as Executive Director of the Ontario School Counsellors’ Association. In retirement, Marc was also an active volunteer at St. Mary's General Hospital, Habitat for Humanity Restore and the Kitchener Public Library.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 248 Highland Rd. E., Kitchener on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. presided by Pastor Bill Shafer. On that day, a visitation will occur at 10:00 am. A reception with light lunch will be provided after the service at St. Stephen’s.
