Obituary of Rev. James Roger Reusser

Passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital (Kitchener), surrounded by family on Thursday September 28, 2017, at the age of 88. 

Jim Reusser of Waterloo is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Helen (nee Snyder), his children, Mark Reusser (Mila Taves), Kristen Penner (Don), and John Reusser, his grandchildren Jilienne Reusser, Caitiejo Reusser(Andrew Alkema), Jacob Reusser, and Jesse Reusser; Kimberly Penner(Dylan Tarnowsky), Angela Penner(Ted Sauer), and Sarah Penner(Cody Scott), his great grandchild, Jackson Penner Tarnowsky, as well as his sisters Ann Shumaker, and Joan (Sam) Diller, and his sister-in-law, Cay Siebert. He was predeceased by his parents Harold & Lorena (Birky) Reusser.

Jim was born in Berne Indiana, attended Bluffton College in Ohio, and graduated from Mennonite Biblical Seminary (Chicago) with a Master of Divinity. He served the following congregations as Pastor: Salem Mennonite (Kidron, Ohio), Stirling Ave. Mennonite, Mannheim Mennonite (pastorate shared with his wife), and Crosshill Mennonite (interim).  He also served in a half time role as assistant administrator at Fairview Mennonite Home (Cambridge).   Jim and Helen enjoyed time at their cottage in Red Bay, building many dear friendships through the community church that worshipped there.

Friends are invited to share their memories of James with his family during a memorial visitation at Waterloo North Mennonite Church, 100 Benjamin Rd., Waterloo on Sunday November 5, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.  The celebration of James’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday following the visitation with Rev. Gordon Allaby and Rev. Kendra Whitfield Ellis officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service.  Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Mannheim Mennonite Cemetery.
