Obituary of Edward Boldt

Edward (Ed) Boldt went to be with his Lord on October 25, 2017, having spent the last eight months at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener. He was born in Plum Coulee MB on October 20, 1929, the youngest son of Rev. Bernard B. Boldt and Margaret (Giesbrecht) Boldt, in a family including three brothers John, Ted and Walter (all deceased), and five sisters, Agnes, Agatha, Anna as well as Peggy and Helen (both deceased). Two other siblings Katie and Bernard died in infancy in Russia.

The family moved to Kitchener in 1934 during the Great Depression. Ed received his elementary and secondary education at schools in Kitchener and Vancouver and university degrees at Waterloo College (BA), Waterloo (MA), and Ontario College of Education (Teaching Certificate).

His teaching career in History took him to Welland, Cambridge (Galt) and KW Collegiate where he spent the last 17 years as head of History. He organized conferences throughout Waterloo Region and travelled with his wife to teach English in universities in China and Russia.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Margaret (Mathies) whom he married in 1953, his daughter Wendy (Ed Deines), daughter-in-law Edith (Edinger), grandchildren Matthew (Lindsay) and Tyler (Haley) Boldt and Emily Deines, as well as great-grandchildren Ava, Charlie and James Boldt. Sadly, he was predeceased by sons Bryan and Bernie.

Edward was deeply committed to the faith as exercised in the Mennonite Brethren Church, especially its boards and committees as well as music, spending over 60 years in choirs and 40 years in the Sacred Song Quartet which toured throughout North America and Europe.

A Life Celebration Memorial Service will take place at Kitchener Mennonite Brethren Church, 19 Ottawa St. N., Kitchener on Sunday October 29, 2017 at 3 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. A private family visitation and burial will take place.
