Obituary of Delmer Armbruster

With saddened hearts but with thankfulness to God, the family of Delmer (Del) Armbruster announces his passing on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Columbia Forest LTC, in his 89th year following a brief illness.  Del spent his last day surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on the day of his 61st wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Doreen, before the Lord took him into his arms and stilled his pain.  Born February 26, 1929, in Lemberg, SK, to Elizabeth and Philip Armbruster, Del made the Waterloo Region his home for his entire adult life.  His family was the joy of his life and seeing them all together was what gave him happiness.  Left to mourn him are his wife, Doreen (Russwurm), sons Derek, Mark (Patti), daughter Lisa (Sean Montgomery)  and his cherished grandchildren, Jason and Brett Montgomery and Rachel, Sarah and Megan Armbruster.  Also remembered by his sister Audrey Sachs, brother in-law Ross Allemang and sister-in-law Gertie Zimmerman and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his sisters, Edna (Doug) Holland and Doris Allemang as well as his brothers-in-law George Sachs, Lorne Russwurm and Lynn Russwurm.

Del and Doreen enjoyed many years of travelling and making wonderful memories before deciding to spend winters in Florida until such time as Del was unable to travel.  Del’s passion of refinishing furniture is evident in the homes of his children, nieces, nephews and friends; his appreciation of antiques has been instilled in them.

Del retired from Family and Children’s Services in 1994.  He served as treasurer for many years at Redeemer Lutheran Church and also the Waterloo Horticultural Society.  He was a man of strong faith and was a long-time and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Friends are invited to share their memories of  Del with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday November 13 from  2-4 & 7-9. Visitation will continue on Tuesday November 14, 2017 from 10 -11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church 78 John St. West (at Severn),  Waterloo, Ontario,. The funeral service will follow in the sanctuary of the church at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to take place at Parkview Cemetery Waterloo.

Special thanks to the compassionate care provided by the healthcare team at Columbia Forest during Del’s stay there since May of this year.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Building Fund of Redeemer Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
