Obituary of John Francis Herman

John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital. 

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty, in 2010. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Diane Wiens, and her husband, Ron, of Mississauga and his son, Randy, and his wife, Sharon, of Waterloo. He was the cherished Papa of Gillian Herman, (Rob Tudhope), of Toronto and Michael Wiens (Jesica), and Christopher Wiens (Emily) of Mississauga and great grandfather of Vanessa, Sarah, Selena and Luke Wiens of Mississauga. John is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boegel of Waterloo and June Pieper of Kitchener and many nieces and nephews.

John served overseas as a machinist during the 2nd world war. Upon his return, he continued his employment as a tool and die maker for Uniroyal for over 37 years. During his high school days, John caddied at the Westmount golf course. Upon his retirement, he returned to his beloved game of golf. Dad became a member of the Doon Valley golf course and continued to enjoy the sport until well into his eighties.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Freeport palliative care, St. Mary’s Hospital, and Beechwood Retirement Home for their kindness and compassion for John.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life for John at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home in the Fireside Room, 171 King Street S. in Waterloo on December 3, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. with remembrances at 3 p.m. In memory of John, donations to Diabetes Canada or the palliative care unit of the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
