Obituary of Linda Flatt

Linda Eloise Flatt was born October 4, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She passed away peacefully at her home in Kitchener on December 11, 2017 at the age of 60.

Linda is survived by her brother-in-law, James Friesen and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

She is predeceased by her mother and father, Jack and Mary Flatt and her sister, Lorraine Flatt.

Linda was deeply loved and her family accepted her as a special gift. Her warmth and spontaneity with people was contagious. Following her early education at the Kinsmen School in Winnipeg, Linda attended the H.L. Softley School where she was awarded the “ Greatest Little Lady Award” upon graduating. As a participant in the River East School Work Experience Program she served at places such as Zellers and Concordia Hospital before she became an employee at WASO, a sheltered vocational facility. She worked at Palliser Furniture in Winnipeg for 20 years where WASO had a contract packaging the hardware. Linda referred to this experience proudly as ‘working at the Palace’.

As her parents’ health declined, Linda made the move to Kitchener/Waterloo in 2001 to live with her sister and brother-in-law.  She was an enthusiastic participant in the WALES Program until her retirement. She is remembered at WALES as quiet and kind. Linda was a person who loved to laugh, and be helpful to others. She also developed skill in the art of rug-hooking and many received her wonderful hooked rugs as gifts.

Regular church attendance was always important to Linda. She grew up in the Elmwood Mennonite Church in Winnipeg and started attending Sunday services at Erb Street Mennonite Church shortly after moving to K-W. She was always ready when her ride arrived, often sitting on the porch with her purse and Bible, eager to show the pretty jewelry she chose to wear that day. After the service, Linda enjoyed having coffee and a treat before attending to her duties as a helper in the childrens’ Sunday School program. Linda was baptized in June 2004. It was a happy occasion for her and her beaming delight affected the whole congregation.

A Service of Remembrance for Linda will be held at Erb Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo, Ontario on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:30 pm.
