Sarah Epps

Obituary of Sarah Epps

Passed away peacefully at the Westmount Long Term Care home, Kitchener on Friday December 29, 2017 at the age of 96.

She was predeceased by her husband Derrick (2007) and her daughter Elaine (2010).

She is survived by her sons Kenneth (Michelle) and Douglas and her grandchildren Graeme, Liam (Adrienne), Bronwyn, Keane (Amie), Ailish and Callam.

Sadie was born in Glasgow, Scotland and following adoption by the McDonald family she moved to Dungannon, Northern Ireland until shortly before WWII. During the war, she served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force where she befriended Joan Epps, cousin of Derrick, whom she married in 1947. Sadie and Derrick emigrated to Canada in 1949 where they raised three children in Sarnia, Ontario. Regularly returning to the Epps family county of Kent, in 1978 Sadie realized her retirement dream of owning a cottage in the village of Mereworth. She spent months of every year there for more than 30 years.

Sadie was devoted to her extended family and friends across three continents in Canada, the U.K. and Australia, where she also spent lengthy visits with her daughter’s family. She was admired and loved by them and will be sorely missed.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Sadie with her family during a Memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 7 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday, January 13th, from 2 – 4 p.m.
