I remember that my uncle Bob provided me with good help and guidance at a time I needed it. He encouraged my interest in the intersection of science, technology and music when I thought only music was my future. This allowed me to ultimately decide to attend engineering at Waterloo. I saw Bob often while attending Waterloo and both he and my father, Ron, encouraged me to stay the course even it was very difficult. This has led me to a fulfilling career in audio engineering. My wife, Cherie, and my daughter, Sophia Truman, send condolences to all of Bob’s family and friends. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to Bob's wife Carol and his entire family for their loss. As Assistant Director of the Office of Operations Analysis at the University of Waterloo many years ago I was responsible for hiring Bob when he was still a co-op student on a work term, and again, with the agreement of the Director, Barry Foord, on a permanent basis when he graduated. Today, I honor the life of a man who was more than just my uncle. He was a mentor, a guide, a source of wisdom and quiet strength and man whose humour was unmatched. From a young age, I looked up to him—not just because he seemed to know so much, but because he lived with integrity and purpose. He taught by example, to work hard, to love deeply, to never stop learning, and to treat others with kindness and respect. He had a way of seeing the best in people, even when they couldn’t see it in themselves. I am who I am today in large part because of him.
