Dear Veronica and family,
Veronica - my old grade school / high school chum! We've known each other since grade 4, but work and family have taken us to different places.
I will never forget your mother. Her kindness from the first time I met her at your house when we were both 9 years old, is still very clear in my memory. She was warm and friendly and made me feel at home. I have a very distinct memory of a pool party at your house. When she realised I couldn't swim (I was a teenager at this point), she quickly went into action and got me water wings. No judgement. She didn't want me to miss out on the fun of going down the slide. How thoughtful is that? This continued as we got older. I think back to her giving me haircuts at the salons in which she worked, and even her home – always asking how I was, how my family was.
And she loved to laugh! I look back and always see her with a smile on her face, ready to engage with others wholeheartedly.
She's a treasure I will remember most fondly. I will raise a glass in her honour for her contribution to this world!
