Chuck was a wonderful man, full of positivity, I will truly miss this about him. I enjoyed walking the golf course with him, and bumping into him walking around the neighborhood.

We are incredibly sorry to hear of Chuck's illness and passing. Chuck was always such a friendly and positive presence, I have fond memories of spending time together with all the cousins in Uncle Charlie and Aunt Irene's basement - often with Cora barking in the background and Chuck reassuring us she was friendly! We were never too sure. As an adult, he was always supportive and receptive to our communications - we wish we had lived closer and see him more often. We will miss him and are thinking of Kersten, Lukas and Jackson in what must be such a difficult time. Rachel Heft (Bryan, André and Adèle)

Our family was shocked and saddened to learn of Chuck’s death. One and all remarked how much we liked him and even though we were not in close contact all the time, our encounters were always very appreciated. Chuck, as we called him, was a rather self–effacing person but at the same time exhibiting character, strength and a sense of humour. Born to Charlie and Irene as a late life miracle and much loved son whom they supported in all his endeavours, he was beloved by his Oma, Alfreda Hoffman Heft. Our family, his uncle Henry Heft, wife Joy and children Tara, Rachel and Tristan were part of his younger life when we made regular visits to Oma and the rest of the family. We all have enduring memories of those times that are part of our family heritage. Our most recent contact with Chuck was a few years ago when he, Kersten and Jackson visited Ottawa and we hosted them for a meal, a very pleasant encounter. Little did we know it would be our last visit with Chuck. Though unable to attend the celebration of his life, we will be present in prayer and in spirit. We send our sincere condolences to Kersten, Lukas and Jackson from our family.

Dear Kersten, Lukas and Jackson, we were so shocked and saddened to learn of Chuck's passing. We attended Bluevale with Chuck and played on the tennis team with him. It was wonderful to see him again at the reunion recently, and I am especially grateful now for that opportunity to reconnect. We remember Chuck as kind and gentle, with an easy smile and good sense of humour. He was a good tennis player and team player too. In your overwhelming grief, I hope you can take comfort from the outpouring of love for Chuck from so many. His time here was much too short - but what a beautiful legacy he leaves. Our sincere condolences, Karen and Lisa McDowell

My condolences to Kersten, Lukas & Jackson. I am still trying to process the loss... I met Chuck in Grade 7 and we became friends right away. We had classes together and played on various sports teams like basketball, volleyball and soccer. We had so many great times in High School and University days. Some highlights were camping, Canada Day concert at Molson Park, Daytona Beach, pickup baseball, road trips to Toronto or London to visit friends and of course being part of each other's weddings. I added some photos with Chuck smiling which is how I want to remember him...... Scott McDonald (Mook)

It's days like this that make you wish you stayed closer to those who meant so much to you years ago. Charles (as I always called him) was a dear high school friend, sharing a love of heavy metal music and tennis. Many summers spent heading to 7-Eleven in his Chevy convertible for a Big Gulp. Concerts. Camping. Did I mention tennis? So many memories and wishing I had many more. Kersten, Lukas, Jackson, my deepest condolences. Charles was one of a kind and I will miss him dearly.

I'm in disbelief. My heart goes out to you, Kersten, Lukas & Jackson. Chuck was as you described him: calm, warm and friendly. A great friend who was passionate about his family, his hobbies and the outdoors. I will miss him terribly but will hang onto many fond memories from the high school and university days as well as our own adventures in the woods of northern Ontario. Thinking of you all and sending love. Harry Kemperman
