In going on a vacation to Newfoundland in 1972 with my parents to meet my grandparents for the first time in my life. I was 10 at that time. I met the entire family that contained of a multitude of Uncles and 3 Aunts that I had never met let alone knew existed. We spent 2 weeks. Mabel worked at a nursing home that I visited with her once. I became sick with a high fever that was only the 24 hour flew. My grandfather stayed up all night with me sponging my forehead with water until I was better. Mabel and Marjorie my mother were talking and before I knew it Mabel was coming back home with us. We went to see Uncle Sam in PEI and the ferries went on strike so we were all stranded in PEI for a few days. Believe me I had enough lobster in those three days to last me a lifetime. Mabel was certainly a joy to have come home with us. Mabel lived with us and my mom got her a job at the University of Waterloo. Mabel eventually obtained her own place. Richard Mabel's husband worked there and they met there. Mabel eventually went back to nursing. Family love and friendship was always a big thing in our family. This was Mabel's long journey of 2,754 kilometers, 1,711.2563 miles to start a new in 1972. Love you Mabel fly with the angels.
I do have an old picture of when Mabel first came although unfortunately I was unable to locate the picture at the time of this post due to massive renovations in my household. Therefore, it is hidden away as I had wanted to post it. Once I find the photo and any one wants it ask Richard to contact me and I will send it.
