Passed away peacefully at home after a valiant battle with cancer on Friday, January 8, 2021, age 73.

Loving husband of Elizabeth “Liz” (nee Ludwig), for 48 years. Dear father of Tammy (Mike) Schmuck and Shelley Obermayer (Paul McGinnity). Will be forever remembered and loved by his grandson Carder Obermayer. Cherished brother of Francis (Joan) Kittel, Marguerite (Wally) Polischuk and Madeline (Doug) Moser; brother-in-law of Ronald (the late Paula) Ludwig and Louise (the late Paul) Ludwig. Will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Predeceased by his parents Cletus and Rose (nee Diebold) Kittel and parents-in-law Clarence and Elizabeth Ludwig.

Ray battled cancer for 26 years, he surpassed the life expectancy of the illness he was fighting.  He was blessed as a proud Grandpa to the brightest light in his life, Carder or aka “Little Shit”. Ray loved his wine and ginger ale, tending to his vegetable gardens at home and at the trailer and loved his GMC trucks, but above all else family was everything to him. He was employed and retired from the City of Kitchener Utilities (34 years), where many friendships were established.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo. Relatives and friends may join the family in the livestream of Ray’s service on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. A link to the livestream of the service is available at the top of Ray’s obituary page at www.erbgood.com

Ray found so much joy watching Carder play hockey and would drive hours to watch his team play, even when Carder was not in net.  As such, donations to Canadian Tire Jumpstart would be appreciated so other Grandparents can share this same joy.  Donations may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.

As Ray loved to socialize, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date when we are able to gather and have a glass of wine in his honour.
