Passed away, peacefully, following a brief illness, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Thursday, December 14, 2006, in his 85th year.
Loving husband of Blanche (nee Kocher) for over 60 years. Cherished father of Theresa and husband Richard Bechtel of Waterloo, Karen and husband Al Johnson of Almonte, and Shirley and husband Rick Thacker of Lindsay. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Cheryl and husband Don MacTavish, Joanne and husband Andy Volcansek, Kimberley and husband Shane Droog, Scott Johnson and wife Tara, Jennifer Benson and husband Christopher, Jeff Thacker and partner Carol Ann and Chrissy Thacker. Great-grandpa of Sara MacTavish, Ryan and Jason Volcansek, Cameron and Nathan Droog, Tyrus Benson and Darynn Johnson. Survived by his brothers, Roy (Jane), Ken (Carol), Harold (Marion), Ron and sisters, Vicki (Don Reesor), Eileen Hergott, Delores Curylo and Joan (Larry Pfaff).
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Magdelena (Welzbacher) Hergott, brother Edward (Mamie), sister Madge (Gil Stumpf), brother-in-law Fred Curylo.

Al was a member of St. Michaels RC Church in Waterloo and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, Waterloo. He enjoyed all sports, especially ten-pin bowling.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, December 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm where parish prayers will be held at 4 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 10 am at St. Michaels RC Church, University Ave. W. at Hemlock St., Waterloo, with Rev. James Malone as celebrant. Interment at Memory Gardens, Breslau. Reception will follow in the church hall.
