Obituary of Ida Mae Kirkland
Ida passed peacefully, after a long struggle with cancer. She lived a life of sacrifice and of love, and will be missed so much by her sons and by the extended family.
Predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Dorothy Fram, husband Hugh Harold (Kirk) Kirkland, brothers Horace and Ivan and sisters Edith and Florence. Ida will be missed by her sister Dorothy (Wilfred) and brother Alvin (Enid), sisters-in-law Audrey and Phyllis, and their extended families. Ida is survived by her four sons, Carl (Cindy), Bruce (Rachel), Douglas, and Derek (Anita). She will be missed by her grandchildren Shawn, Kelly Jaye, Mark, Christine, Patricia, and Amanda, and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Cameron, Michaela, and Kathryn.
Born into a close-knit family in rural New Brunswick, young Ida joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Lachine, PQ during WW II. Early married life saw her following Kirk's transfers in his career in the RCAF. She worked hard all of her life to provide the best possible future for her four sons. Ida returned to Richmond, Ontario and settled into the life of the community, particularly with her dear friend Mabel, and fellow members of Branch 625 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She loved visiting her sisters and brothers in the Moncton area and in Sudbury, and was adored by her many nephews, nieces, and their families.
The family extends thanks to the staff at Terrace on the Square in Waterloo, Ontario, for helping give Ida the best possible quality of life in her final years. Thanks too to the Cancer Centre at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener for their excellent care, and to the staff at Innisfree House for their gentle and caring support for Ida and her family in her last days.
There will be no visitation. The extended family will gather at a later date in the Moncton area to celebrate Ida's life. Condolences for the family and donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Lisaard & Innisfree House, the Royal Canadian Legion, or a charity of choice may be arranged by contacting Erb & Good funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
