It is so hard to say goodbye to a man who played such a vital role in my life. He was more than an Uncle to my sister and I. He played the roll of father figure too, as we were very young when our father passed away. He was also like a Grandpa to our children. I know that Josh and Lindsay cherished him, and loved him, and will miss him as will Joel and Jamie. I can recall him coming to help our mom after having worked all day, still in his Schneider's uniform, not even going home before coming to help. He always did it with a smile. He never said he was too busy. He was always there for us. Both my Aunt Trudy and Uncle Bert are beyond generous. They have shown and taught me very much about sharing, and giving. It was difficult to visit him as he grew weaker and somehow looked so small, he was always a strong man. I would hold his hand, they were soft like satin, once powerful and skilled tools which proved that he could do just about anything. Even in these past years as he was failing, he always knew us, and his beautiful blue eyes sparkled like crystals when he saw his family. I will miss him terribly, and am a better person because he was in my life. Uncle Bert, I love you now and forever. Until we rejoice together again, singing and dancing with Jesus, and family gone before, you remain in my heart and memories. Love Lori

Bert has been a very dear friend to our family – going way back to 1962 when we first moved to the KW area where we first met at Benton Street Baptist Church. Indeed, our families were of kindred spirit in many ways, not only in Christian faith and commitment, but also sharing their love of country living, antiques, and renovating in the early years. Bert always had the answer when we needed help….and always with a smile.
Eventually, however, as the years passed, we all downsized from homes in the country into apartment lifestyle, settling just around the corner from each other in the Westmount and Shakespeare Road area.
For over 50 years we have been blessed as couples with a special bond of friendship. And so it is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to Bert……he will not be forgotten, nor will Gertrude fade from our hearts and prayers as she carries on without him. How precious it is to know that we will meet again one day when we are all called home.

Gertrude,
Fond memories of growing up with you, Bert and the boys as an integral part of our lives. The lifelong bond of friendship you & Bert share with Mom & Dad is something to be cherished and in today's world all too rare. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and the family.
