Obituary of Elfrieda Poetker

Passed away peacefully to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Lisaard House, Cambridge, at age 88. Beloved wife of the late Peter Poetker. Loved mother of Susan Wiens (Fred), Judy Biffis (John), and Paul Poetker. Loving grandmother of Tim Wiens (Jen), Sean Wiens (Kate), Ashley Power (Sean). Nick Biffis (Shauna), Kris Biffis (Kim), Luke and Danya Poetker and great-grandmother of Sophie, Maxwell, Landon, Braeden Aida, Kylee and Adelyn. Predeceased by her father John Mathies and mother Sara (nee Peters), sister Helen Neufeld (Henry) and brother-in-law Rudy Janzen. Survived by siblings Erica Janzen, Margaret Boldt (Edward) and Ronald Mathies (Gudrun). Will also be missed by the Poetker family. A retired teacher/librarian with the Waterloo Region District School Board for many years and a very active member of the Glencairn Church. We will miss her positive, loving and uplifting influence on our lives. Private interment in Breslau Mennonite Cemetery. A Memorial service in celebration of Elfrieda's life will be held at Glencarin Church, 725 Erinbrook Dr., Kitchener on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or Lisaard House may be arranged through the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
