James Dostle

Obituary of James Frederick Dostle

After a complicated journey, Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by love at Pinehaven Nursing Home.

Despite the hardships of mental illness Jim loved his family and he will be forever in the hearts of Wilma, his light through the darkness for 55 years, daughters Colleen, Christine, and Sarah (Andrew Wyatt), and his son Terrence. He was the very proud grandfather of Rachel (Carlos Naranjo), Vanessa (Nic Marentette), Jaclyn, Jennifer, Melanie, Adam, Colin, Eric, and Reid. He was so happy to be a great grandfather to Aselyn, Emily, and Liam.

He is now with his beloved daughter Suzanne, who tragically predeceased him in 2001. We hope they are dancing together again.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Pinehaven especially Lucy and Ruba, for their genuine care and affection. Thank you to the supportive community agencies that over the many years have provided care to Dad.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Friday May 4, 2018 from 7- 9 p.m. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please choose to support the Canadian Mental Health Association, Waterloo Regional Homes for Mental Health or a charity of choice. This may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. Please find compassion for those who are suffering and for the family and friends who love them so.

AA was important to Dad and we would be remiss if we didn’t include The Serenity Prayer –

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Rest in peace.
