Obituary of Annamma Kuruvilla

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener at the age of 89.

 

Survived by a brother and sister, husband P.K, daughter Susan, son Sunil, daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandchildren Isaac, Samuel, and Anna.

 

Predeceased by parents and three brothers.

 

Anna was born in Mundiapally, Kerala, India on May 11, 1928. She studied and then taught nursing at India’s Vellore Christian Medical College; she received a scholarship to do the same at McMaster University for three years. She married P.K. in 1962 and they immigrated to Canada a year later. She worked at Ottawa Civic Hospital until coming to Waterloo in 1968. Anna taught nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital and then Conestoga College for 24 years. In 2001, she and P.K. moved to London, Ontario to enjoy the company of many friends. Recently, they returned to Waterloo where Anna nurtured her grandchildren as she had her children decades before.

 

Anna was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterloo (50 Erb Street West in Waterloo) for many years; a service to celebrate her life will be held there on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. Reception will follow in the church hall.
