Obituary of Daniel Schmidt

Daniel died at Columbia Forest, Waterloo, on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the age of 92.

He was content living at Columbia Forest where he was loved by staff because of his gentle personality and warm smile.

 

Beloved husband of Sara (Wolff) for 66 years, who predeceased him on March 13, 2014. Dear Father of Trudy and Georg Fritsch of St. Clements, Marianne and Jim Erb of Waterloo and Reinhard and Erika Schmidt of Kitchener. Opa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Peter and Karen Fritsch, Andrew and Jacquie Fritsch, David Erb and Leanne Baer, Michael and Diana Erb, Daniel and Christine Schmidt, Stephanie and Devin Plomp and Brandi Barens.  His 16 great grandchildren added much joy to his life – Julia, Alexander, Danika, Brandon, Noah, Cecilia, Oliver, Elliott, Katie, Jacquie and James, Maxim, Bastian, Hailey, Lea and Audrey He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Andy and Sara Wolff of Atlanta GA and sister-in-law Kathie Schmidt of Mansfield OH.  Uncle Danny loved his nieces and nephews as they too loved him. He was predeceased by sons Bill in 2010, Paul Michael in infancy; daughter-in-law Ingrid (Paulini) Schmidt; grandson Rudy Vincent; sister Kathie Schied and her husband Fred; brother Georg Schmidt and parents Katharina (Seiler) and Daniel Schmidt.

 

Daniel was born in Felldorf, Transylvania, Romania in 1925 and immigrated to Canada from Austria in 1953. Sara and Daniel were grateful for their new life in Canada where they worked hard to succeed and enjoy the many opportunities this new life offered them. They enjoyed their membership with Saxon friends at the Transylvania Club, cherished time at their cottage at Amberley and were charter members of Bethel Lutheran Church, Kitchener, a church he helped to construct.  Daniel was a faithful employee of Dahmer Steel for many years.

 

Friends are invited to share their memories of Daniel with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Wednesday, May 16th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.  The funeral service to celebrate his life and faith will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, May 17th at 11 am.  Following cremation, interment will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Kitchener.  Friends and relatives are invited to the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home for refreshments and a time to visit with the family immediately following the service.
