Obituary of Gordon Evans Morley
MORLEY Gordon Evans April 22, 1923 to May 12, 2018. Loved husband of Bessie (nee Gass) and dear father of Gail Dunfield (Ken), Dan Morley (Lucie Lortie) and Deb Morley-Erickson (Rod). Beloved Grandad of Christi and Joe Morley (Julie), Kyle, Wesley (Kirstin) and Laurissa Erickson, and Great-Grandad of Felix Ward. Gord was predeceased by his son, Clare and by brothers Vic, Joe and Kenneth. He is survived by his brother, Wilf Morley (Nelda) of Stouffville ON and by his sisters, Jean MacLean of Meadowbank PEI and Gladys Baie of Grand Terrace CA.
Gord was born in Norwich, Ontario, and he grew up in Claremont, Ontario. During World War II he proudly served as an RCAF wireless operator from 1941 to 1945. Gord’s rewarding career with Northern Electric and Bell Canada took him to Hamilton, Montreal, Labrador, Toronto, and Kansas City. In retirement he was an active volunteer with Bell Canada Pioneer Community Projects, and he enjoyed beekeeping.
He and Bessie shared many travel adventures, building happy memories together. He was able to fix or build just about anything, and he enjoyed all the years of square dancing, round dancing and bowling. He and Bessie found great joy in their retreat at Carson’s Camp near Sauble Beach. We remember him as a dad who always supported our dreams and who was a steady, positive influence on us. We will miss him greatly. Gord’s family extends heart-felt thanks to the wonderful staff at Grand River and Freeport hospitals for the unending kindnesses and excellent medical care they gave Dad, and to the amazing Clair Hills Retirement Community staff that has been a constant source of support and comfort for Mom.
Visitation at the Erb and Good Funeral Home, 171 King St S Waterloo on Sunday June 3, 2018 from 1-2 p.m. A celebration of Gord’s life will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m.
Condolences for the family and in lieu of flowers, donations to Grand River Hospital, Freeport Hospital or St Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
