Obituary of Isobel Jane Fox
Isobel Fox passed quietly after a short stay in the Innisfree Hospice. Isobel grew up in the farming community outside of Ardtrea near Orillia along with her seven siblings (Jack, Murray, Helen, Betty, Fred, Marjorie, Donald). She worked for Bell Canada as a switchboard operator living in a rooming home in Orillia with several other girls. She and her roommates got into all kinds of shenanigans while living there and she enjoyed telling her children the stories for years. She had met the man of her dreams when Barry let it slip that the ice skates he had were so tight, that he could not wear any socks, but went skating anyway to keep from disappointing Isobel. They were married May 21, 1955 in Orillia on a bright and sunny day. They had three children: Dana, Joel and Mary Beth and settled in Bridgeport, outside of Kitchener. Once her children were all in school, she worked in education, first as a secretary and then later as a teacher’s assistant in a special needs class. She enjoyed music - establishing the Sweet Adeline chapter in Oshawa and singing for many years with the church choir. She was a real adventurer – camping across the continent in tents and then later in life in a trailer. She loved travelling with Barry as he was taken across the country for work. When grandchildren arrived, she was quick to knit and sew blankets, hats and outfits for each arrival. She followed the careers of her children and her grandchildren with great interest.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Cleveland Barry Fox. Also, by her son, Dana Fox/wife Carolee, and children Erin and Jordan and son, Joel Fox/husband Cole, and children Kathryn, Stephanie, Laura and Christina and her daughter, Mary Beth Doolittle/husband John, and children Jessica and Boulton. Isobel was predeceased by her siblings: Fred, Jack, Marjorie, and Helen.
