Obituary of Douglas Bruce Knechtel
It is with deepest sadness that the family of Douglas Knechtel announce his passing on June 4, 2018 at the age of 68. He passed away at the Village of University Gates nursing home in Waterloo after a lengthy illness with dementia
Doug was born in Kitchener and raised in Mannheim. He graduated from Goshen College Indiana in 1974. He worked in Toronto doing Social work for a number of years and then joined Via Rail which is where he retired.
He loved his garden and pets and also enjoyed doing needle work.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters Shirley (Jim) Shantz Baden, Janet (Jim) McLaughlin Parksville BC, Marlene (friend Doug) Kitchener, brother Brian (Kathy) Lucknow and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Clifford 2002 and Reta 2010
Friends are invited to share their memories of Douglas with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. with the service taking place at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial service is planned.
In lieu of flowers donations to University Gates is the family’s wish as they provided peace and comfort in every way possible to Doug and his family during his final journey.
We would also like to thank the staff at University Gates for their compassion and loving care they showed Doug over the last 2 and half years. With special mention and a big Thank You from the family to Shelly.
