Obituary of Cleveland Barry Fox
Cleveland Barry Fox died peacefully at home with his family at his side after a brief illness. He recently celebrated his 89th birthday and his 63rd wedding anniversary with his wife Isobel who recently died. Barry, as he was known to most, had a very full life and enjoyed it immensely. He grew up during the depression years in his home town of Oshawa amongst his siblings (Fred, Sam, Mary, Donald) and parents Rosalee and Cleveland Fox. His high school friends were kept close throughout his life – each keeping tabs on each other into their dotage. Barry enjoyed singing with Barbershop choruses and eventually formed a quartet the ‘The Thompson Brothers’. That quartet eventually won the Ontario championship in 1963 and were still performing 55 years later. Working first with Underwriters of Canada and later with International Risk Management, he travelled across Canada making many friends over the years. Barry and Isobel were involved in the Host Family association of Kitchener Waterloo, greeting University students and families to Canada. Many of these students became like family to the Foxes. Barry’s other interests included the ski patrol at Chicopee Ski Club, camping on Beausoleil Island and across Canada, attending church and of course keeping up with his family.
Barry is predeceased by his wife, Isobel Jane Fox, his siblings Mary (Al) Gervais, Fred (Kay) Fox, Donald Fox and Sam (Eunice) Fox. He is survived by son Dana Fox/wife Carolee, and children Erin and Jordan, and son Joel Fox/husband Cole and children Kathryn, Stephanie, Laura and Christina and daughter MaryBeth Doolittle /husband John and children Jessica and Boulton.
