Anna Fleming

Obituary of Anna Maria Fleming

Anna passed away peacefully at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario on Sunday June 17, 2018 at the age of 91. Anna received exceptional care from the Clair Hills Retirement Community staff, during the last year of her life's journey.

Anna joins her husband Dr. James Bruce Sager Fleming, who passed away on December 22, 2017. She is survived by her son Ronald Bruce Fleming and wife Bonni June Tremblay, son Robert James Fleming and wife Deborah Azim Fleming.

Born January 6, 1927 in Stegersbach Austria, Anna was the daughter of Hilarius Loos and Anna Loos (née Kopesky/Kopezky) and was the eldest sister of Ewald, Gretl and Inge.

Anna was proud of her early teaching days in Austria. She then immigrated to Canada where she happened to catch the eye of a young studying chiropractor in Toronto, Ontario. They were married by Bruce's father, Rev. James Fleming, and moved to Waterloo, Ontario to raise a family.

As a member of the Waterloo Potters' Workshop guild for many years, Anna's award winning handcrafted work was renowned and treasured by people who snapped up her speciality teapots, bowls, vases and platters for their family and friends. Her delicate, intricate, hand glazed, kiln fired, porcelain Christmas bells outfitted with functional porcelain bell clapper were especially sought after each and every year.

Anna enjoyed travelling to visit family in Austria. She looked forward to summers spent at 'Laird's Lair' family cottage with relatives and friends on Catchacoma Lake in the Kawartha Highlands, and to the annual getaways with Bruce and friends to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Shaw Festival Theatre during cherry blossom season.

Anna was a hard working teacher, mother, superb cook, baker, gardener, potter and an overall talented artisan.
