Obituary of Elli Ruth Dreger
The arc of Elli's full and accomplished life completed itself peacefully on June 22, 2018 at the age of 92; surrounded by loved ones and loving thoughts from relatives overseas, in the manner that she wanted it to; at St. Mary's Hospital.
She is predeceased by her husband Horst Dreger (2004); her beloved parents Kathe (Doms) and Ewald Kramer; and her beloved siblings: Gerhard Kramer, Horst Kramer, Traute Warnke, Giesela Bobsien, and their spouses. She is survived by her three children Erhard (Kim), Sigrun, and Marita; and her dearest friend Hermann Straub. She will be missed by friends and family in Ontario, Germany, and Florida.
Elli was born in Gross Mirkhof, a farming village in the former Prussian province of Posen. She and her family survived the forced exodus from their farm in January 1945. Upon her marriage in West Germany, she and her husband undertook a series of successful enterprises in West Germany and then Canada, while raising their family. A chance meeting at the Concordia Club lead to a new life and lifestyle in her 50's, which she enjoyed immensely.
Her talents were many; but her business and culinary acumen, resourcefulness, determination, and rare fortitude and resilience, were the most prominent and memorable. Elli made a lasting impression on everyone she met; and will never be forgotten.
