We have so many great memories with Kevin over the years. He truly was one of the kindest people we have ever known and we appreciated him so much.
Over the years, we fondly gave him the name Santa. As soon as December rolled around, Luke and Angela would be waiting for their favorite uncles to drop by with their Advent calendars. Sure enough, Marty and/or Kevin would show up with their calendars. It became tradition for us and we loved them both for it. Luke and Angela would always be so excited to go to Uncle Marty and Uncle Kevin's at Christmas to see his Santa Collection, and of course there were always treats! They were always included in many celebrations over the years with us.
Kevin also meant a great deal to my family in Newfoundland, especially my Mom. She loved Marty and Kevin so much, and fondly referred to them as "Me Boys", like sons to her. She always asked about them every week when we chatted on the phone. The Boys were hear for dinner when Aggie, my sister, was visiting recently. Kevin was in so much pain, especially with his feet. Aggie promptly jumped up and made him a foot bath while we visited on the patio. He was delighted! When my sister and her husband, Marie and Wayne, were here a few weeks ago, we had such a fun evening with music and dance. Karen was here then from B.C. then too. Kevin couldn't get up, but he sang and danced in his chair with Marty by his side. He was so happy that night!
Kevin always complemented my cooking but there were a few times when he shook his head. Like the time we made turkey dinner at Thanksgiving and served squash instead of mashed potatoes. I apologized and promised that it would never happen again! Another time, I had made this gourmet Italian meatloaf (even made the sauce from scratch) because I knew that he loved it. I was so excited when they arrived and couldn't wait to tell him what we were having. When I did, he very politely and graciously looked at me and said "Marty and I have been eating meatloaf all week." My heart sank, but he ate it. I so appreciated his honesty. Another time, we were having spaghetti dinner and realized that Jamie had added trail mix to the sauce. I thought that he would never get over it!
In the twenty years that Kevin was part of our family, we shared many joys and sorrows. Of course, the greatest joy was Marty and Kevin's wedding. They were both always so concerned about each other after Kevin's diagnosis.
We were always there for each other. That's what family is all about! We will always treasure that and we will miss him dearly!
With Love,
Jamie, Linda, Luke and Angela

My husband and I recently visited with Jamie and Linda. We had the pleasure of spending a fantastic evening with Marty and Kevin. When Kevin first arrived he was very quiet and you could tell he was uncomfortable. Midway through the evening Jamie decides to play some music by Barry White, who is apparently one of Kevin's favourites. Well, Kevin's eyes lit up and a beautiful big smile appeared. Jamie continued to play the oldie but goodies. As most of us danced Kevin smiled, tapped his feet, and clicked his fingers. He was havin a time. That is the way We will always remember Kevin. Love Wayne and Marie.

Evie and I have always held Kevin in high regard. His love of Christmas and all things Royal were but a glimpse into the character of this wonderful man. We especially recall a dinner at the Raja in Stratford and an unexpected encounter more recently at the Boar's Head pub in Stratford.
He is in a better place and in our prayers.

I am so sorry for Kevin's passing. My heart goes out to his partner and family and friends who are close to him.
I remember meeting Kevin at St. Mary's Hospital Cafeteria. I worked there and was on my lunch break. He sat beside me and began a nice conversation. He told me that his mother was ill and he was there helping her. He asked me what department I worked in and I told him the kitchen. I found him very sweet and friendly. He asked me if the department was hiring at the time. I told him that it can't hurt to apply and to tell HR that I referred him. Next thing I knew he was our new onboard porter.
Kevin was always great with the staff and patients of the hospital. He was a quick wit and so caring.
Although I have not seen Kevin in over 2.5 decades, I fondly remember him as being a very kind and caring person and a friend I will never forget.
I give my condolences to Kevin's family and friends - he will not be forgotten.
R.I.P. Kevin - Godspeed my long time friend.

It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to one of the dearest souls that we have been blessed to spend time with on this earth. Kevin Mckechnie, you have touched everyone that has had the grace to spend time with you and you will be missed by all of us that loved you. May God give much strength to Marty and to Kevin's family and to all of his friends and loved one's. You were unbelievably generous of your spirit and your love and laughter leave us with a void, and yet fill our spirits because of your great generosity of love. We all have big shoes to fill and need to share as willingly of our love as you did. You are in the arms of your maker and with all of your family and friends that have passed before. Until we meet again...love always, Barb and Ann Marie.
Marty we love you and are here for you always. You were a wonderful husband and caregiver, Kevin was also blessed to have you, as you were to have him. Words cannot express our sorrow but let us continue what Kevin would want us to, and enjoy each and every day of our lives in joy and laughter.
