Over fifty years since I first met Arthur Kenemy, as a student at WCI; and down the years I've continued to remember and appreciate him fondly as a courageous original light who mentored to us the value and integrity of being true to oneself. An invaluable affirmation of life. Thank you Mr. Kenemy.

Sad to hear of the recent passing of Mr. Kenemy, a wonderful math teacher and theatrical director par excellence. Without him, I could never have played an even vaguely credible "Harry the Horse" in WCI's amazing production of Guys and Dolls way back when. I remember him as a bundle of energy, enthusiasm and humour. He really cared about his students and always made time to help when needed. Despite not having seen Mr. Kenemy since graduating from WCI in 1972, I still enjoy many fond memories of him. Clearly he was an impactful teacher if ever there was one, Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Kenemy was an amazing teacher, and this is coming from a student who absolutely hated math (and still does!) and was not very good at it. He encouraged me to keep trying my best, even tutoring me after class, and I eventually ended up taking math courses at University and actually passing! He was not only a great educator, but also a wonderful, talented and unique human being. He helped me get my very first part-time job, at his Dry Cleaners, across the street from where he used to live on University Ave. He asked me to help him out on several occasions, organizing his schedule on Parent/Teacher nights, and he always accommodated anyone who needed a little extra time. One thing in particular that I have remembered about Mr. Kenemy (and always will) was his great sense of style. I still picture him in my mind wearing one of his black turtleneck sweaters, with those sparkling eyes and great smile. I’m so glad he had such a good life, surrounded by people he loved and who clearly loved him.

I was most fortunate to have Mr. Kenemy as my math teacher in 1971 - 1972. During the school year, I had an accident which caused me to miss a test along with a week of classes. Mr. Kenemy was willing to spend his own time, after core school hours, to help me catch up, a favour that I have never forgotten.

Mr Kenemy was a legend at WCI as a drama coach, dance lover and the cool teacher to all of us. He spent time to get me through math and was loved and admired by all the classmates I still see from WCI. I am sure I am speaking for more than one of our gang when we say take a bow Art!

Art Kenemy was one of the many teachers I was fortunate to meet at WCI during the 1960s who were bright, engaging, enthusiastic and committed. Significantly, each of them was also heavily invested in supporting students in their extracurricular activities. Mr. Kenemy was a song & dance 'ball of fire' and significantly raised the standards for WCI musicals. He did it all with a constant smile. I'm pleased to see he found a forever partner and enjoyed a good life.

Art Kenemy was my math teacher at Waterloo Collegiate for two years in the late 1960s. An absolutely wonderful man. His excitement, inquisitiveness and compassion were infectious and this was a big reason I continued on in math in university. I also participated in the annual musical (Anything Goes; Annie Get Your Gun) and Art played a huge role in leading the production.I still smile when I think of him bounding across the stage at practice to tell me I am not singing loud enough - with a big smile on his face! Art contributed so much to his community. Rest in peace.

Well, what I thought was a terrible decision in the beginning, turned out to develop into the most wonderful relationship ever for Art and Glenn!! I greatly admired Art for his intellect, artistic creativity, loyalty and fun-loving nature. He often pushed Glenn to explore places and things that perhaps Glenn wouldn't have done on his own. Because of this, Glenn and Art shared 38 years of a truly rich and fulfilling life to-gether. He'll be sorely missed by so many.

"Square the first. Square the last. Twice the product. It's blast. You can even sing it to Led Zeppelin!" 35 years later I still remember this from Mr. Kenemy. And there is a convincing argument to be made that I might rank as one of his worst performing students ever. My math comprehension issues aside, I enjoyed his classes because he made a lasting impression with his infectious energy and passion for what he did. And I enjoyed the many conversations we had outside of school when I used to carry out his groceries for him at Dutch Boy Food Markets on Bridgeport. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Kenemy's family and friends.

I can count on three fingers the best of the best educators I was fortunate enough to have teach me. Fifty-five years ago, Mr Kenemy was in that group. Over the years we would occasionally meet (usually in the grocery store). He was always so friendly and still knew my name! Thanks for ‘rapid cal’ Mr. Kenemy......Rest in Peace.

While Mr Kenemy was not my math teacher when I was at WCI in the early '70's he certainly left an impression on me. It would have been so great to have had LGBTQ club back in those days - it would have eased the journey.
My sincere condolences to all.

Mr. Kenemy was my favourite math teacher at WCI. I am very sorry to hear about his passing. I am a math teacher myself and I still use the rhyme that he taught me in grade 10 to square a binomial. Mr Kenemy used to take out his ukulele and sing “square the first square the last twice the product it’s a blast!!” I think of him every year and I tell my students that I learned this from my favourite math teacher 30 odd years ago!!

There are a select few teachers that are truly passionate about what they do. Mr Kenemy was one of those people. I was fortunate enough to have had him as a math teacher, and as a homeroom teacher as well. RIP sir, you made an impact on many peoples lives.

Jim and I are deeply saddened to learn of Art's sudden passing. Art was a good friend for many years. He was very meticulous in everything he did. His laugh was contagious, and his wit will live on in our memories. It seems like only yesterday we helped him celebrate his 70th birthday. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, and especially to Glenn at this time of sorrow and reflection.

We were so shocked to hear of Art’s passing. He was such a wonderful neighbour and he never hesitated to help me out. As fellow teachers, we know Art had a very positive effect on his many, many students and this positive influence is still felt today. We used to love to hear all the stories of Hawaii. We will miss Art greatly and are thinking of his family and Glenn’s family at this time. Sincerely Frank and John Pendergast, Waterpark Place.
