Obituary of James Stanley Huras

Called to eternal life with our Lord on August 27, 2018 at the age of 88.  He died peacefully reading at the cottage. Jim Huras was the loving husband for 65 years of Alice Huras (née Besler). Dear father of Brenda Hagedorn (Stephen) of Waterloo, Thomas Huras (Lorraine) of Toronto and Jonathan (Laura) of Kitchener. Dear grandfather of David (Shannon), Michael, Sarah (Jonathan), Peter, Alexander, Abigail, Daniel and Gregory. Great-grandfather of Zachary and Penelope. Jim will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Edwin and Flora, siblings Roy, Dorothy, Donald, Weyburn and a granddaughter in infancy. He was president of the Waterloo Spring Company and lifelong member of Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Red Bay Community Church, serving in many leadership roles. He served the community on the boards of the YMCA, Lutherwood, Christ Lutheran School and others. He was an avid sailor and a founding member of the Red Bay Sailing Club. He enjoyed the ROMEOs and Probus clubs. He loved downhill and cross-country skiing and being outside gardening and pruning.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Jim with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday August 30 from 6-8 p.m. and Friday August 31 at 10 a.m. at Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 137 Queen St. S., Kitchener. Service 11 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment at Memory Gardens, Breslau.
