Obituary of Barbara Joan Dietrich
Passed away suddenly at Columbia Forest Long Term Care, Waterloo on September 2nd, 2018. Barb was born in Goderich, October 13th, 1940, daughter of the late Lester and Frances (Carpenter) Bart. She is survived by her brother Gary (Eileen) Bart of Stratford; niece Kelly Tajti (Robert) of Etobicoke; nephew Troy Bart (Mary) and great- nephew Alex of Guelph. Also survived by her brother and sister-in-law’s; Mark (Marjorie) of Kitchener, Paul (Anita) of Wellesley, Marg Hinsperger (Walter) of Stratford, Catherine Dietrich and Richard Dietrich, both of Waterloo and Leona Henhoeffer (Wayne) of Ayr. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nephews and great-nieces. Predeceased by her husband Fred (2005), brother Ron Bart, sister-in-law Joan Dietrich, and brother-in-law Thomas Dietrich. Barb enjoyed bowling and camping with her husband. She worked at several different jobs throughout her life. She started as an aid at Stratford hospital working in the nursery and ended her working career taking care of the children she helped cross at the busy Glasgow/Westmount intersection in Waterloo. She was nominated for Woman of the year for her heroic acts in keeping the children safe. Barb was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church in Waterloo and sang in the choir. Barb lived with her husband on 116 Avondale St. Waterloo . Shortly after her husband’s passing Barb moved to Beechwood Manor, residing there for 7yrs moving to Columbia Forest Long Term Care in 2015.
Barb enjoyed music and singing. She joined the choir at Columbia Forest; she was an avid colourer and often donated her drawings as prizes for bingo. Barb enjoyed her time at Columbia Forest often saying “this is a great place”.
Many thanks to the staff at Columbia Forest especially those on Watson house and the activity program team, you all made Barb feel at home. Thank you to Dr. Mather for his care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories of Barb with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Wednesday September 5, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. where parish prayers will be held at 8:45. A Morning Prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday September 6, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10a.m. with the Rev. Rafal Tomon as celebrant. Interment at Parkview Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment in the parish hall.
