Obituary of Harriet J. Bauer
Harriet passed away with family by her side at the Westmount Long Term Care on Monday, September 3, 2018 at the age of 91.
Harriet was born on November 21, 1926 in Chatham, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was an active member of St. Michael’s RC Church in Waterloo and served as organist and choir director for more than 30 years.
Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, Jerome F. (Jerry) Bauer in 1982. Mom raised 11 children, Anne Nauman (Hugh) and their children Christine and Shannon (Kyla); David; Philip (deceased in 1994) and daughter-in-law Genevieve Farrell; Patrick and his children Tony and Michelle; Dick (Susan) and their children Aaron (Laura), Emily Little (Dustin); Deb Wood (Tim) and their children Jaime, Jodi and Rory Wendland, Lauren and Matthew Wood; Greg; Matthew (deceased in 1963); Mary Brady (Con) and their children Elli, Katie, Teri, Con, Georgi; Cathy Hanafy (Ayman) and their children Farris, Mai, Ruanne, Yasseen, Salem, Rasheed; Jerry (deceased on August 26, 2018) and his fiancée Paige Calvert. Mom enjoyed her 12 great-grandchildren.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Isabelle Morse, three brothers Sonny, Stan and Dick and four sisters Mary, Pat, Janet and Eleanor.
Mom especially enjoyed the winter months with Dad on the beach at Waikiki, along with friends and family that she continued to connect with following his passing. Mom (a.k.a. The Big H, Granny, Mumsy) was very practical and down to earth. Her wit and sense of humour were appreciated by many even as she moved into the last season of her life. Mom’s sense of compassion knew no bounds.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s RC Church, 80 University Ave. W., Waterloo (at Hemlock Street) on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Walter as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo. Everyone is invited to return to St. Michael’s Church for a reception.
