Obituary of Malcolm (Mal) Douglas Emslie

Peacefully, after a brief illness, Mal passed away at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the age of 90.

 

Mal is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Audrey (nee Miller).  Lovingly remembered by his “happy gang”, daughters Linda Emslie, Janice Herbison and husband Paul, Yvonne McLean and husband John and fourth daughter Deborah Snider.  Grandpa E. to Anne Anderson and husband Trevor, Joshua Herbison and Caleb Herbison and Great-Grandpa to Nathaniel and Finley.  Mal is survived by his brother Jim Emslie and wife Fern and sisters-in-law Emily Emslie, Pat Emslie, and Joan Hartwick and husband Lloyd.

 

Predeceased by his father Charles Emslie, mother Alice Jonas, step-father Walter Jonas, brothers John Emslie and Ken Emslie, brother-in-law Doug Miller, and sister-in-law Elaine Becker.

Mal retired from B.F. Goodrich after 37 years of service.  Mal and Audrey raised their family in Conestogo where he was a volunteer fire fighter.  He and Audrey later moved to Waterloo. 

 

Mal’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4 – 7 p.m.   The funeral service to honour Mal’s life will be held at Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 29 Westmount Rd. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Philip Mathai officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Region or Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
