Obituary of Jaan Soosaar

Jaan passed away peacefully at the K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the age of 85.

Jaan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Benita, his son Rob and his wife Sheri, grandchildren Kayla, Laura and Bobby (and fiancée McKenzie Hebel), and sister Tiina Magi.

Jaan was born in Parnu, Estonia in 1933.  His family escaped to Sweden during WW II, eventually settling in Toronto.  Jaan enjoyed a career as a mechanical engineer in the petrochemical industry, retiring at the age of 65.  During retirement he and his wife were able to enjoy gardening, travel and time with their grandchildren.   In 2017 he and Benita moved to Waterloo to be closer to family.

A private family visitation has taken place.  A memorial service to celebrate Jaan’s life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
