Martin Koegler

Obituary of Martin Herbert Koegler

After diligently caring for his two and a half acres of the universe for most of his 90 years, Martin H. Koegler mounted his John Deere in the gently falling snow on the evening of November 15, 2018, for one final ride into the creator’s eternal garden.

Saddened, yet relieved, are his loving wife Erika (Goetz) and his children Daniel (Rena), Cynthia (Paul Fox) and James (Nancy).

Marty was known as the fun-loving joker by friends and family members including his six grandchildren, Sasha and Nicolai, Erin and Brandyn, Olivia and Sophie, and his great-grandkids, Edward and Ella.  But he was also a quiet, serious, hardworking man, capable of creating, building, fixing, growing, or cooking anything he put his mind to.

Things were done his way (which was usually to perfection) with not much room for discussion, whether it be building a Caesar salad, a pool, a garden, or a grocery list. He willingly passed on his self-taught skills, his knowledge, and his passions to his children.

When asked recently what the best thing in his life was, he said, " Falling in love with your mother was the best feeling I ever had" and "Being a young father and playing with my kids was so much fun."

Martin wants to be remembered as a “do-it-yourselfer”, for his ingenuity, his work ethic, his independence, and of course, his gardens. He requested that no funeral be held. Martin will give back to the soil that provided him with so many years of pleasurable labour when his ashes are spread in his gardens in the springtime.
