Obituary of Philip Gary Venton

Passed away peacefully on Nov 17th, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener Ontario in his 85th year.

Predeceased by his 1st wife Jane Evelyn Venton (nee Ritchie) and his 2nd wife Joanne Emile Venton (nee Thompson) and his granddaughter Christine Amanda Jane Mikel.

 

Survived and beloved by his son Mark Venton and wife Laurie Venton (nee Bauer) , his daughter Caroline Joy Venton, his son Mike Venton and wife Vicki Venton (nee Newstead), his son Scott  Venton and wife Melissa Venton (nee Spiteri). Also survived by his Grandchildren Dwayne Robert Mikel and wife Lisa Mikel, Tricia Martin and husband Joshua Martin, Tori Smith and husband Devon Smith, Nicole Venton, Stephanie Venton, Michael Venton, James Venton and Andrew Venton.  Also by his great grandchildren Gabriel Martin, Asher Martin, Bauer Smith, Nathaniel Martin, Emma Smith and Lily Ann Christy Mikel.

 

Gary Venton grew up in London Ontario and went to Western University, Ivey School of Business. He became a teacher with the Toronto Board of Education. Following his role as Vice Principal  and Principal at Downsview Secondary School, he was promoted to Superintendent of Schools with the Waterloo County Board of Education in 1977. He proudly served in that role until his retirement in 1995. 

 

Gary was an avid bridge player and played several times a week with his Probus Club at the Terrace on the Square, and with his retirement group every Friday Afternoon.  Gary enjoyed many activities and outdoor sports, wildlife, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family as well as his bridge buddies.

 

A special thank you to Dr Kim who gave our father so much of his time and energy. 

 

We also want to thank all the staff in CCU and Jess on the third floor cardiac wing, for providing such incredible care. 

 

Friends are invited to share their memories and celebrate the life of Gary with his family during the visitation at the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Tuesday November 20th from 6 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 21st at 1 pm.
