Obituary of Loraine Mae Preiss
It is with sadness and comfort that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Loraine Preiss, in her 95th year at Lanark Heights LTC.
Beloved wife of the late Ronald Preiss, who passed away at Lanark Heights LTC in 2022 in his 94th year. Loving mother of Sandra (Ian) Wismer, Stephen (Pamela) Preiss, and Valerie (John) Davis. Lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren: Andrew (Nicole) Wismer, Michael (Kaitlin) Wismer, Daniel (Jaclyn) Wismer, Laura Wismer, Joseph Preiss, William (Sarah) Preiss and Lee (Kaitlyn) Preiss. Cherished great-grandmother to 9 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Dolores (Oscar) Martin.
Predeceased by her parents John and Edna Snyder.
Mom was adventurous, warm, and patient. She was a kind and courageous soul. She was a longtime and faithful member of Trillium Lutheran Church, formerly St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was an active participant in the Lydia Circle of the LCW (Lutheran Church Women). She was a great sport, curling in her earlier years at Glenbriar, then giving it “a go” with cross country skis, camping and tennis. She was an avid bridge player with lifelong friends. She had many skills, including the magic she could perform with her knitting needles and embroidery floss! Not to mention her gift for pie making and her mastery of the butter tart! We regret to say that this expertise has not transferred to the next generation.
Mom was born in St. Jacobs. She met Dad at Luther League in Waterloo. They were married in 1950 and moved to Victoria, BC, then Edmonton, AB, due to Dad’s work at Dominion Life. They started their family, then returned to Bluevale St. in Waterloo and stayed in our family home for over 60 years.
When Dad retired, our mother and father spent many enjoyable summers on the Kawartha Voyageur, cruising the Trent Severn Waterway. They always had season tickets to the Friday night Pops concerts at Centre in the Square. It was around this time that Mom declared that Fridays were “dinner out” nights. This is when dining out was determined by whichever coupon in the mail arrived that week. Life was simpler.
In August 2018, Mom and Dad left the family home on Bluevale Street and moved to Parkwood Mennonite Retirement Home. She then moved to Lanark Heights LTC in 2019. She was a champion throughout COVID! She was of great courage throughout her journey and was an example of honour and grace.
Our family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Lanark for their care. We also wish to express our appreciation to those who reached out with kindness, support and messages of sympathy and comfort in our time of sorrow and sadness.
Friends are invited to share their memories with our family during visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the funeral service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the Fireside Reception Room.
If desired, donations may be made to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
