
Obituary of James Stephen Bauer
James Stephen Bauer of Waterloo passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Born on April 7, 1929, son of Harry and Clara (Heiser) Bauer. Predeceased by his brothers, Wilf, Paul, Tom, and sister Pat.
Jim attended St. Louis School in Waterloo, St. Jerome’s in Kitchener and St. Michael’s College School in Toronto. Jim was a Waterloo Alderman from 1955-1960. He was then elected Mayor at the age of 31 and served until 1965. During this time, he continued to work at the family business Bauer’s Limited in Waterloo until 1971. Following his term as Mayor he was Chairman of the Grand River Conservation Authority, a position he held for 25 years. Then, until retirement, he served in various roles with the Canadian Water Resources Association, including Executive Director.
Dedicated husband to Bernice Anne (Rich) who passed away in 1997. Dear father of 4 daughters, Christine Gasselle (Roger), Therese Bauer, Nancy Forte (David) and Becky Kosumovic (Ryan), and 5 sons Kim Bauer (Barb), Dan Bauer (Ann), Ben Bauer (Mary Anne), and Joe Bauer. He is predeceased by son Anthony (1961). Very respected and loved grandfather of 19; Suzie, Jay, Bobby and Tommy Gasselle, Luke, Sara and Jenni Bauer, Josh and Jessica Bauer, John, Bradley and Patrick Bauer, Jake and Charlie Bauer, Cassie, Allie, Samantha, Jamie and Ryan Forte and their families, including 14 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank with utmost gratitude and respect the remarkable Team Members at University Gates Retirement who took such good care of our Dad over the past four and a half years.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with vigil prayers to be spoken at 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis RC Church, 53 Allen St. E., Waterloo on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home's Fireside Reception Room.
