Obituary of Modred Peart
Modred Ervilda Peart
(nee: Odle)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Modred Ervilda Peart on the evening of January 26, 2025, at the age of 84. Modred left this world peacefully with the never-ending love and devotion of her children Deborah and Veral Jr. by her side.
Modred is predeceased by her mother Claudine Ismay Odle, father Lorimer Eugene Odle, brothers Myraul Odle and Delorton (Lester) Odle, her sister Dorothy Odle, and her loving husband of 37 years, Veral (Tony) Peart Sr., who passed in 2003. She is survived by her children Deborah Peart and Veral Peart Jr., her brother Dawson Odle, and her sisters Joan Odle, Petralene Odle, Harriette Williams and Grace Brathwaite, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Modred exemplified courage and determination when she left her home of Barbados at the age of 17 to follow her ambition of becoming a nurse and mid-wife in Manchester, England. With her husband Veral steadfast by her side, she continued to fulfill her dreams by moving her young family from England to Canada, settling in Waterloo. For 30 years, Modred served the region as a registered obstetrics nurse at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital (Grand River Hospital). She dedicated herself to her profession, assisting in the delivery of hundreds of babies, while earning the respect of her colleagues and the health-care community. In later years, Modred found joy in music, singing and dancing, radiating positivity, generosity, playfulness and the knack for having a sly wit. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have rubbed shoulders with her.
Special thanks to the staff, volunteers and healthcare providers at the Waterloo Adult Day Program, Winston Park Retirement Home, Columbia Forest LTC, St. Mary’s Hospital and Grand River Hospital.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, January 30th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A private family interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery.
